It all started when me and my friend, Erik, went to Christiania (Copenhagen) one time in the morning just enjoying our day in some cafe drinking tea. Erik, who is also singer of Swedish Hardcore band (check out
Hårda Tider) and a great drawing artist, told me the story about his tour and exhibition in Berlin. I told him that I've always wanted to do a solo exhibition, and all of the sudden he said "Let's do it in Malmö!". At the first time I thought it was only a joke, because I know how we're always cracking silly jokes about something that we want to do or promise to someone but never do it. Surprisingly, turned out it really came true!
It was happened so quick, only less than a week for preparation. Luckily I brought my external hard disk during that time, so I could sort out some photos. It wasn't that much because most of them are only the old ones, so twenty photos are enough. Everything happened so easy, my other friend Sara, has this sewing workshop in
Galleri Gordon and they have the space for exhibition inside that place that we could just use it anytime, so it was just perfect. We did all the thing by ourselves from buying frames to painting the wall at gallery, setting the in focus projector for the photo slideshow, all of it, except for the photo prints. We made the invitation through Facebook event and spreading posters to some local alternative bar and cafe.
The first day of the exhibition was full pack of people, almost 200 of people. I was really surprised, didn't expect that coming, it was surreal. You even have to squeeze in to get inside and take turn to see the prints sometime. The next two and three days were more relax, random people came and asked me lots of question about the Indonesian hardcore/punk community. Not only people from Sweden, also from Brazil and some other country in the community as well. Sharing story for hardcore/punk community in different countries is always nice and good to feel the connection for each others around the world!
For the whole three days exhibition has been a success, meeting a lot of good friends, and some interesting people (or even a dog!) were such an awesome experience for me. Even got the chance to celebrate someone's birthday at the gallery, well that was just a bonus. I could feel a lot of people got inspired about the Indonesian hardcore/punk community and also curios about the nature. I got the idea to slipped in some Indonesian warm and sunny landscapes and beaches photos as well in the slideshow, because it was winter season in Europe at the moment. So yeah! Hope that it will encourage more people to go and tour to Indonesia. You know the doors are always open :)
Huge thanks and kudos to Erik/Simon Persson and Sara for helping me a lot to prepare the exhibition, Andy Instigate for helping me out with the poster prints, everyone at Galleri Gordon, and also all Malmö gangs for coming to the exhibition and being supportive as well.
